Quantum Field Theory I

(Φ-604) -  Vasileios Niarchos

Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

This is an MSc-level course. It requires very good knowledge of Quantum Mechanics. Previous knowledge of basic elementary particle physics is a plus but is not necessary.

Quantum field theory is a central framework in elementary particle physics and cosmology. It is also very useful in other areas of physics, like (quantum) statistical mechanics, condensed matter physics and critical phenomena, as well as an active topic of study in pure and applied mathematics.

Τhe student will be introduced to the theory of relativistic invariance, to field theory quantisation, and to computational techniques in interacting Quantum Field Theories. Special emphasis will be given on the use of Feynman diagrams for perturbative computations of scattering cross sections and decay rates. The essentials of the renormalisation of Quantum Field Theories will also be presented.

The course has a discord server. Ask for an invitation.
